My 72 302 Grabber has a pulley that doesnt do anything! It is located right where the power steering would be if I had it. My friend who runs a classic Mustang repair shop says it's probably a factory screw up, they installed an engine with the power steering pulleys on a non power steering car on accident. when it got to the end of the assembly line they just installed the dummy pully so the belts would work, instead of sending it back , or changing the other pulleys. He says he's seen it on a Mustang before. It looks factory and the car has'nt been switched over to manual from power steering. I will post a picture when I figure out how.
Never heard of it with Mavericks but I have seen a Mustang or Torino from the factory with what was called a 'Drag Pack' and it had this pulley because it was power steering delete. It had other features that made it a better set-up for the track. I would think this was just a carry over of spare parts to the Maverick
Does this pulley serve as a tensioner for the crank and waterpump belt? Is so it is the power steering delete pulley, although I've never seen one on a Mav, I have seen them on other Fords.
Does this pulley serve as a tensioner for the crank and waterpump belt? Yes It does. So I think I know why it's there now, thanks guys.
