I bought my third set of Wrangler HP tires for my truck (yes, off topic, but should be just as relevant for Mavs/Comets). Anyway, the stock set and the next set were fine. Got nearly 70k out of them, etc. This most recent set... When put on the rims, on one tire, there is weight added for about 60 degrees of the rim (let's say from 12 to 2 o'clock on the rim). Then, about 6 or 7k into the use, the truck starts to pull to the right. I take it in to get it re-alligned, and the allingment guy says allignment is good, but tires are wearing unevenly, so he swapped them side-to-side. I usually rotate forward-back only, to prevent "porcupine tread" and the road noise that goes along with it. Well, now I have porcupine tread and excessive road noise. I have since swapped one pair side to side again to cut the noise down, but now I have that pull again. So, for future reference, how do I buy decent tires that will not do this? Do I have any rights as a tire-buyer to have these replaced or something?
What year is your truck and whats the mileage?? 20 inch wheels?? When you get that scalloped problem on tires you should rotate back to front more often. The HP's are bad for that. We see alot of 20's on the trucks scalloped and noisy. Our used car manager goes nuts when we tell him his used truck needs 4 20 inch tires. Also if the truck is an 06 or up the front strut/shocks fail very early and cause the same tire problem. I assume your talking about your Hemi truck.
04 Hemi truck. 20" tires. I have just replaced all frront suspension and joints, and the rear shocks. What is a good tire to use to replace these?
Your biggest problem is buying Goodyear tires. Others will say different, but I have never had a Goodyear tire to last, they either wear funny or blow out. I've had them on several different vehicles, cars and trucks, with the same results. I now usually buy BF Goodrich or Uniroyal, have never gotten a bad one. I had a set of BFG All terrain's [10:00 x15] on my old 84 4X4 Ford for seven years, never did wear all the tread off of them. I took them off because they started dry rotting in the sidewall. I don't know how many miles on and off the road I put on them, but it was a bunch!
My uncle usually gets around 100,000 miles out of Michelin tires on his 2000 F150. Of course, he just spent $700 putting a new set of Michelin's on it, as well. Probably more then the truck's worth at this point. But it's ready to roll on to 500k! Hey, that's a FORD for you!
The Wranglers are what Dodge sent the truck out with, and the first (and 2nd) sets lasted well and wore well, so I kept using them. I guess like anything else, you can get a bad batch. So, can I complain to Goodyear and see if they will swap out a tire or two?
You can complain and complain all you want but I doubt they will give you any more tires. lol I like Bf Goodrich and Michelin's. If money is no object I will only put one or the other on my vehicles clint
i prefer michelins but have bought bridgestones as well. i always use tire racks web site and do a lot of comparing for the conditions i am planning to drive in against how others and tire rack rated them. i actually changed what i wanted for my truck and the grabber by doing this as well as reinforcing my decision on what to get for my wifes subaru....sometimes there will be two tires from the same brand name with similar tire names that handle COMPLETELY differently. one will say it is good for ice but be rated super poorly and the other doesnt really specify yet is rated excellent even against other peoples ice tires.....
Blown... Thanks for the suggestion. I always steer clear of Sams and Walmart. I have met MANY people with bad experiences with those tires. These are Discount Tire, which may not be any better. I will try to get over there and let them look at it, but being Discount Tire, they are likely a bunch of idiots who either don't know what they are doing, or the bosses won't let them think a problem through, because it may lead to a free tire or two...
LMAO!!! i opened this post to see where the conversation was going and the ad on the bottom was for discount tire...hehe. I got two bad tires from another cheapy shop also and had to fight real hard to get them replaced. initially they just wanted to give the replacements to me at a minor (10%) discount. good luck!

My local Goodyear has been very good on making it right with tires ! If you have any dry rot on sidewall within 3 years they adjust ! I would try Goodyear an see what they say,,, if they walk away go to another dealer an tell them how you were treated! I always criss-cross my tires on my Superduty. Good Luck !
I ealt with Discount for a couple of years. Went to them with my Bronco and a set of tires on wheels and a loose set of tires . I wanted them swapped and balanced. They wanted to charge me $175! I told them I wasn't wanting to buy a set just swap. lol They do you OK on bad tires so long as you buy the warranty with the tire. My son had a blow out on his Focus and they changed it no charge except he had to buy another warranty to the new tire. Another thought. I always though radials were supposed to only be rotated front to back. Discount went to rotate mine on my truck once and I saw them criss-crossing and asked them about it. He pulled out some fancy book and showed me it was right so I guess it is Only Goodyears I have every had were on a new car and they didn't last 20k miles. clint
All the other trucks I see end up with some tire with a scorpion on it. I guess they had bad luck with the stock set of goodyears...
