Installing 2 wire universal power door locks with 3 wire switchs.. So how do I wire them up? do I need relays?
you dont need relays. the switches controle wich side of the solinoid gets power and wich side gets ground. do a google search for door lock wireing diagram and you will find lots of info.
got it I think Ok on the switch side(3 prongs) you have the long post going to ground, while the other two goto the solenoid, both have a hot 12v tied in. Flipping the switch completes the circuit.
Most door lock solenoids are actually motors. At least the ones with 2 wires are. Their direction depends on the polarity of the power going to them. Hook them up one way and they lock, reverse the wires and they unlock. If that's the case you would need a center off DPDT switch that's momentary in either direction. This switch has 6 terminals. If you tell me what switches you have and what solenoids you have I may be able to help you out.
