Going to FINALLY get the car on the dyno. What do I need to take with me?

I would think of it as a good thing, If you think its fast now and it only has 250 horses, just think ...300, 350..the block is the limit, (and budget....lol)

Those track numbers are with my old 8:1 non-roller block, old cam, old heads, old tranny, old ignition system, old edelbrock carb, no slicks, no caltracs...a lot has changed since I pulled those numbers.

So if 208 is baseline, I should be happy with 250 with the current setup.

But this dyno day is more for fine-tuning the carb for street use, not for getting every last HP/Tq number. I am willing to give up that last 5-10 HP in order to get decent(er) gas mileage. I spend a good 99% of my time on the highways and city streets, and seldom ever make it to the drag strip.

Of course, if i have the time, I may tune it both ways and just see what jets give me the best ET, then only put them in on race day.

Well, it looks like I will have to cancel until next week. This cold front was supposed to be through by thursday night leaving me with a clear sunny drive on Friday morning, but it has slowed down and I now have 80% chance of thunderstorms Friday...

With all the exposed primer, I try to keep it out of the rain whenever possible. And this being a good hour drive each way, I don't want it in the rain that long. Might try to do it early next week.

Just gives me more time to gather a "dyno kit" so I can get the best out of my time there.

Yeah i know i just worded it weird I was saying what if you get it up to 350 ...even more... i think the block will eventually crack if you keep on going up.

OK, so my list so far includes:
--toolbox with spark plug wrench, screwdrivers, BFH, Duct tape, all the typical stuff.
--Holley jetting kit, with extra power valves in various sizes.
--"new" timing light, since I don't trust my old one anymore.
    --8 extra spark plugs
    --Extra carb gaskets
    --vacuum hose
--and as Ed so graciously mentioned, a Maverick...:p
--and a couple hundred bucks cash.

    Anything else?

what carb. are you running and do you have one at least one size smaller to take to try?

    on my 347...
i had a 650 DP that ran lean...
went to a 750 DP and still lean...:hmmm:
my Dyno guy suggested a...670 duel feed...:thumbs2:
he said i was pulling too much air and not enough fuel...:yup:

    ...:drive:...

I am running a 750 Street HP right now, and running a little rich out of the box (13.5-ish A/F ratio). The 600 Holley Double Pumper I had was running way to lean. I think the air bleeds were drilled out by a previous owner.

Worst case scenario, I will lean out the 750 a bit, and live with low 14s on the A/F.

And low 12s at the track:D

you might want to try some different heat range spark plugs. ive heard that you want the hotest plug that will work. now i dont know what happens when its too hot. maybe some research into it would be in order. now that i think about it you should be researching how to tune the motor with the vacuum adavance, plug heat range and the fuel adjustments.

Nope. Frank's dyno guy is A Number 1. Racers in Georgia and the Southeast know him.

Well, I cancelled today's dyno appointment because The Weather Channel forecasted a 90% chance of rain, thunderstorms, and hail, with likely tornadoes.

So I sat home and wrote my reports and screwed around on this Maverick Forum doohicky thingamabob, and not a drop of rain!!!:badwords::mad:

either of those numbers would be acceptable by me.

It is the 125 or 185 numbers I don't want to hear.
