Ask the guy if he has any pictures? If it's a good solid car to start with, and his work was quality, then 7 isn't bad, other than you don't like the stripe.
For that price, I'd think you could find another car you'd like more...

    ...easily cloned

Jamie knows this already, but a Grabber also has the body code 62D. A 62A code is a standard 2 door.

I agree with Dave. If it's not what your looking for - move on. :yup:

I actually pursued this car a little further, the guy worked a body shop for 26 years, semi retired and loves cars, he built this "Clone" to replicate what he had when he was younger, using all original Grabber options, based on a 1977 standard maverick with a 302, whole car has been gone over, and a new interior installed with custom upholstery, bucket seats from an explorer, new carpeting, new headliner, nice used door panels, dash pad and the list goes on,
the exterior has been painted with PPG concept and the srtipe has been removed, both sides of the car and parts of the hood have been repainted to get rid of the stripe, hood still has center stripe.
a new fuel tank, new brake rotors and pads, new wheel cylinders and shoes, air shocks, new tires, new holley 550 carb, new fuel pump, new radiator, new lower control arms, new battery, new dual exhaust,.
Not counting all of the hours to get the car to this point, I think it may be worth it... for me anyway, I'm looking for a "turn key" maverick not a "turn wrench" maverick... :)

    The stripe is eliminated? Cool!

if he has removed the stripe it loooks to be a very nice car. it would be hard to build a similar car for his asking price. see if you can talk him down a little and i say if it is to your liking, grab it.

I was thinking the same... if i bought something cheaper, I would have less of a car and have to put more into it to get it where this guy has it already... he already removed the stripe...only thing I dont like is the newer looking speedo... is it possible to swap with an earlier model one?
other than that its all personalizing with rims and what not... I think I am going to grab this grabber! lol
by the way ..he clarified and said he called it a grabber because it has all the grabber options not a numbers matching grabber from the factory.

I believe the speedo's will interchange in the bezel. If not, you might just swap the entire gauge pod, but I think the wire plug is different on the 76-77 cars than the earlier models.

:thumbs2: I've always thought it was a good looking car stripe or no stripe the price was a little high as I remember, but like you said you want a “turnkey” not a “turn wrench” I dig you want Immediate joy and Satisfaction and your right Life’s way too short.:yahoo:

Yeah I dont have time right now for projects.. with a 5 and 7 year old we just want to cruise! :D I just sold my 1954 Custom VW Beetle after owning it for 15 years, too small with the family and I just got tired of working on it.. I am looking for something different now but dont want to start at the bottom again, now looking into getting this maverick...being it has alot of the work already done... he repainted most of the car to get rid of that stripe about a week ago and he is waiting for it to harden up before he polishes and blends it all in... shortly after he is done I'll make my decision.... and hopefully end up with something as equal in quality as my Bug was...

WOW awesome looking bug!!! hopefully this mav will be what you are looking for. here's a shot of me and my family with our latest purchase. A 1972 Karmann Ghia. The body has been dechromed except for the front trim chrome and mirrors and the side stripe is removed. It looks and runs great and we are enjoying the little car.
I hope you enjoy your mav as much.

    Jason,

Nice Ghia ... glad to see you and the family still having fun with cars.

Just ran across a racy-looking shell of one at a salvage yard here. Not much left of it, but it looks like it was set up for road racing in its last incarnation. It was being stored on the other side of the fence where the public can't get to it, so maybe there is some hope of resurrecting it.

Yeah, I don't really care for the stripe too much either, the grabber blue bumpers could go too it does look like a nice car other than that though, but like they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Nice VW's, my neighbor has a Berrien buggy and we used to go to our local dragway's "Bug Out" and watch them run the 1/8th mile, the little cars have grown on me.

Here's my favorite VW, well it's part VW.

actually its all vw when thosewere released in europe they were under the vw name but vw didnt think they could sell sports car in the U.S. so they had there sister company put there name on it and the Porsche 914 was born

intresting fact the 924 was deigned for vw but for the same reason they never produced so porsche bought the desgin back and went ahead built it with the vw 2.0 until 84 when they put the 2.5 porsche motor in the s version
