This is a little off topic, but it's a Ford and you guys know your stuff. Anyway... My dad has a 1997 Cobra with suspension and bolt on mods and it runs very nicely. Anyway, he wants a little more out of it, to the tune of 400 HP. He wants a blower and needs recomendations. He has always been into cars and Paxton is the first that comes to mind, but wants opinions of the best one, now that there are so many. Keep in mind this is his daily driver and he is going for fun and longevity, so he wants 8-10 pounds of boost. What would you guys recomend for easy, longevity, and reliability? Thanks guys! -Corbin
Your going to need lower then stock compression to run that much boost for one thing the more boost the lower compression you will need some of those top fuel drag cars are running like 3.5:1 compression to run like 15 to 20 pounds of boost....one good thing about blown motors is its not as hard on your pistons and can most of the time be daily drivers if you dont care about gas. I dont know alot about blowers for EFI cars im assuming it is because it is a 97, i have heard good things about paxton though.
Hi Corbin, For smoothe big block power right off idle and a blast to drive, Kenne Bell is the one. The engine needs no changes. Just bolt the Kit on and go. I run one on my Lincoln at nearly 8 lbs boost now for nearly a year. 400 hp would require more than 8 lbs boost so he needs at least 10 lbs boost. As always the engine should never be allowed to go into detonation. Use 93 octane fuel at all times Following the instructions should net a nice running engine. I can make 325 hp out of a stock 5L engine on speed density, in race tune.
those 4V cobra engines respond VERY well to forced induction. There is one running around here, a '98, that is equipped with the Incon turbo kit....and dynos approx 570 HP at the rear wheels. The Kenne Bell is nice, and even at 8 psi, it should easily make 400 HP. A better choice, IMO would be the factory '03 cobra Eaton setup....which I assume will be available soon for the earlier cars through FMS. It's basically the same as the lightning, and is good for 390 HP in stock form. None are cheap, however...the Incon turbo was over $3500 and the Kenne Bell is around $3000 if memory serves me correctly.
yeah those engines do... we had the roush one here at work and that thing really haul arse! that thing should be fine as long as you don't boost more then 8-9 lbs i'd say.
i don't know corbin. if i remember right that road up to your house is pretty winding. looks like another road racer in the making.
