trouble

    when i turn my mav on it feels like it has a hard time turning on..when i does turn on it barely turns on and feels weak..why might this be?

    have you replaced the battery or tested it?

    could be the alternator. i'd have it tested :yup: i think most parts stores will test it for free

    and also when it does turn on it revs up

    when you say it rev's up do you mean when you start it up and the motors cold it idles fast?

    well the fast idle is normal. all the older carbs do that. it'll idle fast for a couple minutes then you tap the gas once or twice and it should idle down :yup: its just so the motor warms up.

    but i'd have the alternator tested. if its not charging up the battery that could definatly be part of the slow starting issue

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    Check your battery cables for corrosion and good connection/contact.Also have your starter tested...it may be weak and cranking slowly on its own.(this will drag a battery down in short order as well as overheat the battery cables)Bad ground connections will wreak havoc too so check em out too.
    The other thing that comes to mind is that your timing is way advanced causing the car to crank hard(slow) and then idle high once running.

    check your timing also. causes slow start when its low
