i want to buy a msd ignition box for my 72 maverick sprint but i hear some things that sounded bad about it and i wanted to know is it easy to put in yourself or easer to get another person to do it
first of all, nice car!! there are a lot of different MSD ignition boxes out there. I don't have any experience owning one but know that a lot of othe cars I see in magazines have them. You may need to figure out what you want out of your can and engine.
I just bought a used but tested MSD 6A and didn't get any paperwork with it. Is there a mininum compression needed to run one? My Cleveland is 10 to 1, maybe slightly more.
I noticed difference when I installed an MSD 6a on my ~10:1 306, especially in the low RPMs. I can back the idle screw all the way out and it will still run, which was far from the case before. Easy to install and worth it in my opinion.
I don't think you need a specific compression ratio. You should go on the MSD website and just read up on their ignition boxes, it explains to you exactly how they work. I'm not the right person to explain it to you but maybe someone else can.
on my 9 to 1 motor... the dyno didn't show any difference with it on or off. i was told it helps with 10 or better...
