lol, i like that sugestion. mo and i were talking today and came to the question, can the 671 fit under a cowl hood? thinking of the carbon fiber ones from maverick man.
Although i have never tuned a 6-71 with a single carb, I can see trouble that may not be thought of. When i tune a 6-71 with 2 carbs i have to open the bleeds on the synchronizers all the way, So this makes me wonder what size bores would a carb need on a single application. Another is mixture distribution, I don't know if you would maybe lean the rear or front cylinders due to the central location of the carb,As stated i have never tuned a single carb 6-71 but these things should be considered. But if you try it be sure to put jet extensions in the rear bowl. And use the brass screw in, not the slip over type.
blower I run a 174 and am very happy with it , especially because I can stick it under the hood with just standard 69/70 style factory scoop. As far as a big blower vs little blower goes...10lbs of boost is 10 lbs of boost, no matter whats making it. maybe my little guy works a bit harder to make it, but the engine dosen't know the difference. This spring maybe a nice methanol injection system, boost referenced. My car has gone 11:70- 119 mph with only 10* timing. With a little cooler and better fuel, give it back another 5* and it'll go low 11s I believe. And I drive it everywhere, short and long with no problems on the street. JMO
hey Blown74, how did you figure out your fan setup for the radiator? you happen to have any pics of your engine?
fan Fan was on the car when I got it. Single electric puller type, I did change to an aluminum 2 row big core radiator and added a separate trans cooler, but have no real clearence issues. I'll look for a pic.. no so good, but take others if you need them..
nice setup, very clean! Which electric fan are you running. I'm hoping I can keep the taurus fan I have right now which does an amazing job if I decide to go with the 174
If I have to run dual carbs on the 6-71 I might as well stick with the 174. What boost do you guys figure I should be running for the 331 with 8.7:1 compression running E85? Is 14:1 too much?
When I get the urge to have a blower stick out through the hood (which would be cool, no doubt, I've thought about it), I ask myself, would I rather smoke someone at the light with a sleeper or risk having an embarrassing choke with a blower? I'm into subtle and not bling. There's places for both, and a personality for each. If I can get the power of a blower without people hating on me for jealousy (or vandalizing my car for spite), that's best of both worlds IMO. If you show off something big, be prepared for big reactions. It's a risk. People will either love it or hate it, but you won't find a lot of reactions in between. Speak softly and carry a big stick. If you find someone who is interested in seeing your engine based on what it sounds like or how it performs, that's true, informed appreciation. And, if you smoke some hater at the light, their imagination of the engine is better than any blower sticking through the hood.
I'm not quite sure what your asking, But if you mean 14 psi boost, You probably (wont) make it with the 174. Now if you mean 14:1 compression with boost, Which it will take between 8-9 psi then you can do that. But my advise is to keep the pulley that comes on the blower till you get the "TUNE & THE FEEL" for being Blown. It also lets the gears get seated with less strain on them. Also when you receive the blower, Remove the front cover, Tighten the idler gear bolt and loctite it, Then use some blue loctite on the rest of the case bolts. Trust me on this because i have had one to come apart, And everyone of them i have installed, the idler bolt was not tight. And Holley's warranty AINT TO GOOD.
I can promise he wont drive long making the boost it takes for that compression, Unless he has very long back roads. And no LAW.
