i just recently purchashed a 71 comet Gt, its pretty much exactly like the one you will see on the original advertisement, white with all the gt kit and striping, it has red interior and is an auto. as of right now the car is torn down and sitting on a rotisserre, an surprisingly the car had almost no rust, the last owner believed t to be a garaged car. the motors already beefed up and the tranny has been fresh rebuilt with a shift kit. Now my question is i want to change the interior to black and im going to put some more goodies on it, i have everything to put it back to stock, would i really depreaciate the value if i did change the color, because the car is getting a full resto.
White with a red interrior is actually a pretty cool combo. As for de-valueing the car,General consensus is that tastefull mods and performance improvements make em worth more.It aint a COPO Camaro or Shelby GT500 Stang.Make it what you want it to be...Note GT Comets are not common these days.
I used to see that color combo in the Monkey Junction area and around Carolina Beach. I never met the owner. E-mail me or call me and I'll attempt to talk you out of changing your interior to black from red. All joking aside, it's your car, do as you like. Red interior cars look very good in many cases. I can get you some pics of red and black interiors for comparison. I also maintain the slowly growing registry of '71-'75 Comet GT's. Monetary value: I don't think it will make a hill of beans difference if you change the interior to black. Nostalgic value: A red interior is very rare, and I would say desireable. I would suggest keeping it. In my Opinion, interior colors to keep: White, Red, Orange, Blue Interior colors to lose: Green, Brown, Tan
thanks appreaciate all the input, i suppose i'll keep it red, but i am thinking about at least a black headliner possibly, and im doing a disc brakeconversion on the rear, im trying now to find one for the front for a decent price. And does anyone have an idea on how many gt's were made in 71?
