i have a replacement maverick bench seat in my 1975 maverick. it came with the car when i bought it. i never found out what year car the replacement seat came out of. my original seat had the seat belts come up through plastic spacers in the seat just in front of the backrest. the new seat does not have spacers and therefore had the belt buckles sit on top of the bottom cushion and under the top cushion (the cushion behind your back) here is my question. what years maverick (or comet) could my replacement seat come from? i need to get longer seat belt buckles. the original ones are now too short and i have to slide the seat all the way forward to get enough slack to buckle up. i am 6 foot tall and too fat so i need a longer buckle end. thank you for your time.

thanks for that but what i am wondering is what year of maverick had longer seat belts. i am not worried about the clasp style, but rather the length of the strap. thank you for your time.

Don't know the answer to that. I found front seat belts from a 74 4-door and they were about 3"-4" too short to work on my 74 2-door. My carpet came out of a 72 2-door and the seat belt location missed the holes in the floor pan by a good 4"-5".

Just goto the junk yard and find a set with the length you want. They dont have to be from a maverick as long as they are the same width or at least not wider. Then goto an upholstry shop and they can cut the old ones off and sow the new ones on.

You need to worry about the clasp/buckle style....as they will not interchange.

Your seat is probably out of a 1970-1972. I "think" in 1973 they started running the belts up THRU the seat.

thank you for the quick responses. i am very grateful for this forum. the nearest junk yard is 2 hrs away and they are an import only newer than 1994 kind of place. baaaaah, maybe it is worth the trip to the next one down the road from that. thank you for all the great help.

So that's why my seat belts are so short, I took them out of a 4-door. I've got two 6" aluminum extensions made to raise them off the floor when I get time to put them in.
