Does anyone here either road race or do HPDE events in there mavericks, i would like to know what setup you are using and do u like it on the track, as i just sold my 944 Porsche Turbo.. it was to expensive to maintain , but i want to continue with track days... ive had SN95 mustangs i tracked as well as my 06 Roush .. i am in the market for something cool ,so i am either getting a 66 or 68 mustang coupe but i want a mav , but dont know how well it would do on the track ..is there any suspension companys that make stuff for mavs ..... general input is greatly recommended..thanks Barry

RRS is supposed to be working on a 3 link setup for the Maverick they already offer a strut setup for the front. Not cheap though.

Its basically a Mustang front end, isnt it? Opentrackerracingproducts.com has some good stuff, or so I hear. Depending how serious you want to get, an export brace would be A#1 (regardless of intent), followed closely by roller spring perches, and roller control arms and strut rods, idler arm, and quick ratio steering box. For the rear, a set of Poly bushings would be a good start.

I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
I did some road racing,,, and actually did a Hybrid conversion to a beat up old Maverick I had to just see how it all would work,,, I was surprised to find out,, it was prob the best Idea I ever had,, One of the hardest cars to beat in a road race that is basicaly a factory stock American made car is the Ford Thunderbird 1992 to 1997 4 wheel indipendant suspension,, Rack and pinion steering,, and an all around tough uni-body set up,, I grafted the T-bird and Maverick together and had one of the best set ups I ever came across, And I do plan on doing it again,,but this time the rite way and for keeps,, the experiment was just to try it and was plan as ya go type of thing,, But ,,,, gave me the ability to put anything from a Super charged V6 up to a 5.4 Lightning engine under the hood,, and the light Maverick body was Awesome,
Clasic car seriously upgraded,,, I ran the Sh$t out of that car,,, and It amazed me, and the ones who drove it as well,,

Like I said,, it was an experiment,, Now I know how to do it allot neater and cleaner with out having to rig things up to make it all work,,,, When I do it again, I would have no problem running it in a race,,

Look up a member here by the name of Gunslinger. He is in the NW US and races his Maverick in road race events. I assume in some sort of vintage racing class.

All the components on the Mavericks are the same as 68 - 73 Mustang.
As for road racing there are good aftermarket, light weight parts for the front end and I have even seen an "E" type jag rear end under a Maverick. I don't want to sound like a traitor here but for a road track the 66 Mustang is a lot lighter (2300 - 2700) than the 3000+ pound Maverick. When you are going around corners even a little weight makes a big difference. With all the handling accessories available for the early Mustang it would be hard to match with a Maverick.

This watts link would be a great bolt-n to make the car handle better

    http://www.fays2.net/fays2_watts_link_22_.html

my ideal setup would be something like hd 4leaf rear springs
    kyb gas a shocks..or gr2s front rear.
    7/8 rear sway bar
    fays 2 watt link
    front 1.25 sway bar
gw front upper tubular control arm
17x8s all around with 255-40-15 rear and 245-45-17 front
some type of fast ratio power steering box( do any stang boxes work?..wonder if lee can make one!?)
70's camaro jounce bars( radiator core to fender bars)
    sub-frame connectors
    cal-trac traction bars
    1in drop stang front springs

I'm going to be using a Watts link in my Maverick with a 4 link set up. I still have to build a frame to mount it to. I actually got the idea to run one from following the Austrailian V8 Super Car Series.

I have 2 photos in this thread of the Watts pivot from Coleman Products

You may look into Globel West . They have many parts for early mustang / maverick . A few yrs back a friend did a falcon with there parts we were talking about road racing and he liked the mav. better than the mustang even tho the mav was heavier the weight bias is better than the mustang.
