    Hi Guys,

I have a Holley 570 Street Avenger carb with an electric choke. The choke is all messed up and will close while driving and the engine will die. I live in Flordia and just want remove the whole thing. Any advice on how to remove the choke plate. It looks like there is a bar through the plate that holds it on the carb. On one end the bar is attached to a bracket that is attached to a thin metal rod going to the choke motor. I think if I can get the thin rod off the bar's bracket then the bar will slide out and the choke plate comes out.

Does this sound right? Any help is appreciated.............

Take a flat head screw driver and a pair of vice grips and work the plate out.

I say fix it or adjust it all the way open (3 screws on the choke housing) and kill the 12v going to it (pull the fuse)...not the wire on the choke.

Ditto, if you've got a good electronic ignition system, it'll start and idle at down to 25* F. Sometimes on it's own, sometimes with minimal effort of the gas pedal. Remove all the choke parts, but do it with the carb off the motor. You can plug the slot where the rod goes thru the housing with a screw thru the plastic bushing.

If it is all there I also vote fix it. You might move or even want to sell the carb one day. I don't have a choke on the 460 in my F100. Does't have any heated air from the intake either and it runs great in cold weather. I might have to nurse it a minute or so. Even then I say fix it

If you remove the choke plate the car may have a lean condition when you first start the car - even at 70 degrees. There is a wide range of adjustment with most chokes. Fix it to make it work properly.
