1. i have noticed that some 4bbl single pump holleys have only one metering block, why is that? 2. can i convert a dual feed carb to a single feed?
I believe they do not run power valves for the secondaries and w/o the metering block you loose some tuneability. Why would you want to go to a single feed ??? Just curious..
well in the haynes manual i have it said that the dual feed set up would be overkil for a stock motor.....
overkill Perhaps..but I would think that would have more to do with the cfm rating of the carb than anything else... jmo
Toss that book in the garbage can. I'm runnin a 570 SA Holley on what's basically a stock Explorer 5.0 and it's as close to perfect as it gets. Besides, a dual feed Holley is just plainly a more pleasing to the eye carb to look at than a single feed. But if you want to convert yours, I'll swap you all the single feed bowls you want for those dual feed bowls.
You can get the dual feed in both vac. secondaries an double pumpers. As far as the Haynes manual, it's just a guide. An 850 double pumper would be overkill on a stock 302 but stick a well tuned 650 dp on one and you would be fine.
Yes you can convert to a single feed but you'd need side hung bowls instead of center hung. Personally, Id keep the set up you were showing me in another thread. Some of the carbs came without a rear metering block, and used a metering plate... which they made different metering plates as well, but are expensive. I think once you get the carb you have tuned, you will be very happy
