I believe I have a bad fuel pump. I am receiving fuel to carb but fuel pump blew some oil out a small hole on side of fuel pump and sprayed outside of oil filter. Anyway how does one install one is it as simple as gasket and bolt up or what?
Pretty much a bolt on deal...If it wont slip in place without some force behind it.Bump the engine over to rotate the fuel pum eccentric away from the pump arm so it mounts without having to force it in place and draw it on with the bolts.
Just make sure you put your finger up there, to hold the shaft while putting the pump on. Then tighten the 2 bolts & your done.... Been there, done that....
Duh! I guess it was a Cheby. I had a 69 Z-28 for 14 years. Then found the Maverick/Comet 10 years after I sold it.... Must be old age....
hello mavman, how do i know if my eccentric is bad. I took the fuel pump off because i thought i had a bad fuel pump, i stuck my finger in there and i can turn the eccentric with my finger. Is that bad? how do i fix it? or is it possibly just the fuel pump.
You might want to put a pressure gauge onit before you replace it - all it takes is 6 psi -8 psi. Shouldn't bleed down once you have pressure.
"i stuck my finger in there and i can turn the eccentric with my finger. Is that bad?" Your eccentric isn't bad, it has a roller kind of thing on it to reduce friction.
Hello pardon my ignorance but were is the oil pressure plug? i dont know much about cars, im learning as i go with this little maverick project. I do appreciate your reply's though thank you very much.
thanks for the reply. The old fuel pump i had was a holley 80 gph and i literally ran the car five miles with it and then parked it for about a year. Im replacing it with a carter 120 gph mechanical pump. I have a 302 with a 650 edelbrock carb and a moderate intake manifold and headers. Nothing major. Will the carter be ok?
