I would say the 71 and 72 are what most people would say are the best years as far as an ideal maverick / comet style, but the later refinements like disc brakes and electronic ignition etc. are what makes these cars a more functional / reliable package.... I'm not saying cut up all the other years to donate parts for just the 71 and 72 models...(or am I :16suspect )..as each year has its own special place in the mav./com. history, and people like different years for different reasons...I'm just glad they kept making them long enough for me to have a 77 to take the disc brakes and electronic igniton off of for my 71....still have no use for the park bench bumpers ,but thats because my truck still has a tailgate...:rofl2:

    1971 had it all ....

    Small Bumpers
Hood Scooped and rear Spoilered Grabbers
    V8's and floor shifters
    Comfortweave Interiors
Everything was still Autolite marked for that true classic appearance

72 comes in a very close second ... I just hate the stupid seat belt light in the dash ... and no Comfortweave ...and everything marked Motorcraft.

I also prefer the 17" 302 Air cleaner over the smaller 14" used on 72+ cars ...

Let me say this, as much as I love my 74 Mav, I've done some research and this may be one of the least popular years. The 74s seem to be the least option of all. There really is nothing much to them because everything was pretty much an option.

I think your wrong, 77 is the bare bones Maverick, less options in 77 then any other years.

71-72 are my favorite. 75 up are also great parts cars since they're usully disc brake cars

    all great points....

and i really agree with the 17" air cleaner. it just looks right at home in the engine bay compared to the smaller 14" one
