He yanked them off his car and brought them down to me and we slapped them on my car. Mainly, I was wanting a set of the same rims, but wanted to see what sizes to look for. His were all 17X8 with 4" backspacing, and I found a couple issues with fitment on my car. 1) Wheels are too far away from rear springs, but too close to the fender lip. His were 235/45 and the outside still hit the fender like my 255s do, but were 2" shorter, and had an extra 3/4" clearance at the spring. So I would bring them in by either buying 4-1/4" BS or 4-1/2" and adding a 1/4" spacer, depending on my options. Then I could get a set of 255/50s in there (still going back and forth on the ratio, and haven't researched what is actually available in 17" rims). 2) the 225/45 front tires cleared, but just barely, and since my front left section of valence has a bit of bend and damage to it, it caught the tire on a sharp turn. But I think with a straight valence, no problem. Pics below. The tires with tread, and the first of the set, are my 255s, the baldish ones are the 245 on 17" rims.
looks great!!! maybe my car has PERFECTLY lowered front suspension but I have 225/45 on mine and I have no rubbing. My car is lowered substantially
Rear Wheel Size - 18x8 Boyd Coddingtons with 4 inch backspacing. Rear Tire Size - 275/35-18 Brigstones "Yes these will fit in your Maverick as well again if you car is lowered in the rear you will need to roll the outer fender lip if you don't want it to rub."- Mr. Yee http://www.maverickman.com/TireandWheelSizes.html Tire / Wheel Size: front: 245-40-17 back: 275-40-17 http://www.maverickman.com/RestomodMavericks.html
These are 225/45r17 on 17x8 4" bs, and it only rubs on the front of the left tire on the valence, and ONLY because my valence is bent, so that little 1/4" of clearance is gone due to the previous damage to the front valence. It would not rub if I put my NOS valence on. The rear 235/45r17 on 17X8 with 4" bs only rubbed on hard launch outside of driver rear tire. Same place my 255/60r15 on 15X8 4-1/4" bs rubs. So if I can get these tires in a 1/4" and put on something around 255/50 (or whatever is available in 17" tires) I should get my stance, gear ratio, and rubbing issues squared away in the rear. I still haven't had time to look at what size rims and tires are available that are closer to what I will want.
