If you have normal fuel pressure, what else could cause a Holley 600 carb to flood and kill the engine.
I had a needle and seat fail ... boy, that was a fun ride home (wasn't going to pay for a tow truck if it ran). Had to keep it at about 3000 rpm to keep it running while waiting for traffic lights. It was just pumping the gas in there. Changed the secondary needle and seat ... ran like nothing ever happpened.
i just fixed my Holley 600cfm 4bbl. the factory messed up a gasket so it blocked a fuel passage causing fuel to dump all over the motor and it ran terrible and sometimes it just wouldn't even run. Thats just another thing to look into if what everybody else says turns out to not be the problem
OK. I know how to check and adjust the float level. What is the process to change the needle and seat. Do you have to take the carb off to do it?
What kind of choke? Manual or electric? I had one that was manual and I never hooked it up so it would flip shut when I backed off the throttle on the drag strip. You may have crap in the seat too, pull it out and clean it up. Plenty easy on a Holley.
I originaly thought it could be the choke closing too. It's an electric choke. I unhooked the wiring and locked the choke open. Still having the probelm so I'm looking at other things. How do you change the needle and seat. Do you have to take the carb off to do it.
At the front and rear there is a nut with a screw in the top. Back the screw off then turn the needle assembly out with a 5/8 wrench. Only thing you have to remove is the air cleaner.
I had a small string of plastic stuck in the needle of mine, where it came from, I'll never know. But it was spitting gas all over the place.
Gasoline??? Sorry that wasnt very helpfull but it looks like they have you covered. Like Dave I had a tiny piece of rubber line stuck in the valve. Luckily its an easy on car fix with a Holley.
Yes. But instead of adjusting the float level, simply unscrew the needle/seat all the way out of the bowl. Only thing is, it's really better to remove the bowl from the carb when trying to make the initial float setting. And when replacing the bowl on a single feed Holley, be sure to lube the fuel transfer tube O rings before assembly.
If you get Spike TV check out Horse Power TV tomorrow. Mike takes a Holley apart and gives a basic explenation of whats what.
