Well it looks like the weather wasnt going to get nice enough to be able to work on my car,so my brother in law (good friend shh) took comet in for a transmission oil & filter change,he said the fluid was burnt and the bands were out of adjustment. It was a saturday morning at the ford dealership and all the old timers were looking hard at my car and surprised how nice the underside was.I was not thinking or I would have given him my camera when he picked the car up.No more morning sickness and I took it out of town and got to really run car up to normal operating temperture for about a hour, shifted great even at 70.
I need to do that for mine too. I bet those old timers were LOVING it telling the n00bs all about how to work on a car without hooking it up to a computer first!
Its strange to see the old Mavs in a dealership. When I have mine at work even though its a Chrysler dealer it attracts big attention. Should have seen the young guys when I had the Holley all over the bench. They had no idea how I could put that mess back together. Little do they know that the Holley is real basic. They should have done some of the carbs in the the 80's. It is cool to see the old cars on the hoist at work. Simpler times.
lol yes you want to talk about a mess from a carb tear apart a thermo quad you need 2 benches to hold all that.
I once drove my '74 Grabber to a local very high end Mercedes dealership, called Atlanta Classic Cars. Hawkco had bought some parts off ebay, and the seller was a mechanic at this dealership near my house, so I went and picked the parts up for him. It was hilarious driving that car in there, through the rows of brand new fancy a$$ cars. Made my way around back to the service dept. and a bunch of guys came out to look at the car, it was great. Discussion went on about how that car had already ran and probably would continue to run longer then any car at that dealership ever would. Shamelessly made my way back out through the rows of cars, front suspension squeaking over each speed bump. Later that year, I drove the car to the Hapeville Ford Assembly plant where the Taurus was built, for the plant tour that Earl Branham had arranged for us Dixie Maverick guys. There were parking spaces directly in front of the main lobby entrance to the building that had signs stating only vehicles manufactured by Ford Motor Company could be parked there. I parked the old Maverick right smack in the middle. That was a neat place, it's too bad it has since been shut down and completely torn down.
My friend is one of the young guys who is ford certified, and doesnt get to work on these older cars much,he probablly had the old timers standing around him drinking coffee and directing as this is a small town dealership with about 6 bays to work on cars,I will try to get my car up there again for other maintenance in the future, but dont want to ruin a good thing with free lift and tool availability.I really just want to see the underside myself and take pictures. The exhaust donut is starting to get loud,so that will be done next. Thanks secret brother in law, otherwise I would never have work done at a dealership at 75 dollars a hour labor
75 what a bargain. We're at 94 and my buddies general shop around the corner is at 110/hr for diagnostics.
Mavs at Stealership I drove my 75 Mav 4 door to a local Ford dealer the other day to pick up a part and 4 young salesmen pounced on it. They wanted to know if I was going to trade it in. I told them I only had 10 more payments and it would be paid for, they scattered like a covey of quail. Foolin with the youngins is soo easy. Texasjack
I bring my maverick up to a local chevy dealership... i know just about everybody there, and really good friends with the mechs... but everything i bring her up there everybody stops what there doing and stares.... And the ford dealership accross the street will even come into the chevy dealership to get a glace at my car
I took a few pictures of my Comet at the dealership that it originally came from on it's anniversary, i even got the guy to move some of the cars so i could have it parked in the row with the Mustangs. Thank God i did because late last year it closed after 36 odd years, this made me very sad as i used to love driving by the old dealership and looking over at it and thinking, hey there is the old dealership that my Comet came from! Now it's gone............. sucks!:16suspect
