I wanted that big lumpy idle too, I love the idle and it pulls hard but some times I just want a little less cam. If I build another street engine, I probably would go with a smaller cam. Invest in a lot of lock tite. I have had the header bolts spark plugs and even the jets in my front bowl of my holly 650 come loose. Damn cam rattles everything loose on the car at least in my case. I did have to pay american motor sports 300.00 to set up heads with shims and springs and such.
Rattled 3 of my rockers loose recently. But I also had a drive-train vibe that was killing my u-joints and rattling my teeth loose. Got that vibe fixed and it is still bumpy under 4000 rpms. Purrs like a pussy cat at 6500 rpms...
I would shift at 7k but my fan belt throws off right about there. That is why I am trying to get that serpentine system.
If you're tossing belts, the pulleys are out of alignment. Never had one go on my Comet with it's V belt, even up there at 7 grand and above.
