I'll have to double check with my father-in-law on the year. He quoted it as a '72, and I took that at face value....but he's got a lot of cars and could be remembering it wrong.

Btw, how can you tell so quickly? can you point me to a reference guide of sorts?

Big Bumpers, 74 & 75 had big bumpers, 73's have a different stripe, and bumpers, 72,71,&70 all have small bumpers..
Remember, some of us, are Maverick freaks, I know more about them, than I do about my own kids!!

Overall, if that car is somewhat solid, that's an amazing find!!

72 and down have the smaller bumpers 73 has a little bit bigger bumpers then they get even bigger bumpers in the later years

and if it was a 71 72 grabber it whould have the grabber hood with the 2 small scoops

but over all you have a good combo of a great car A ( grabber '' bucket seats '' manual trans '' V-8 and what looks to be a great dash pad

It does have an AM/FM radio, but I don't know how stock that was. I know it was stolen and replaced a few times when he lived in Chicago. As far as the brakes go....I honestly don't have a clue right now. I'll dig a little when I get home this afternoon, but my father-in-law thought it had all drums.

So it's a gem? And to think that my father-in-law is considering junking it....

Look at the first number on the VIN. That will be the last digit of the year model. If it ends with a 4, then it's a '74. (and so on) Hope this helps. Welcome to the board.

I just dug around a bit out there. It's definately got front drum brakes-that will definately have to be changed. Also, the first digit of the vin is a 4, so that implies a 74, right? After looking more closely at the car, there's a lot of rust! The battery tray was almost completely rusted out. The rocket panels are about gone also. This might end up being a problem as I am a terrible welder! The belts, wires, and hoses in the engine compartment look pretty good, and the air filter looked almost brand new! There's no light in the barn right now, so tomorrow I want to dig around and check the condition of the fuel lines.

Both are common areas these cars rust out. Unfortunately that likely means rust in other areas as well, especially being that it was a northern car. Depends on how bad it is and how bad you want to save it. Either way, definitely don't let the car get scrapped. There's a nice little chunk of change to be made with that car if it does turn out to be a parts car, lots of sought after stuff there (I'd like to call first dibs on the seat tracks and steering column!)

I was just getting ready to say that. In some on the pictures, I could see some rust. In my opinion, if the car has significant rust.....it is just a parts car. Post some pictures of the rust. Might have spent too much time in Chicago winters.

"Craig....why would you say it is just a parts car."

Well.....since it has been sitting so long, it will need EVERYTHING. I just saw on this board two Grabbers posted from Craigs List that can be bought for a third of what it will take on this car.....maybe even a quarter of what it will take.
