I'm more of an early Ford guy, but I had a rusty but dependable 70 Maverick back in high school as a winter beater. My daughter wanted a Maverick as her first car, so we picked up a father/daughter project. After we went thru the many mechanical problems, I scored a 77 parts car with discs. We did the swap, with the great help and info from this site. Thanks to all that have posted tech articles, they sure save some trial and error. Anyways, she's driving it everyday now. The kids at school think it's the coolest thing in the parking lot. Things sure have changed, eh? Well, 11 days after she had her drivers license, she was at the dragstrip beating the little 6 to death. She's been down the track with me lots of times, but actually DRIVING was a first for her. She's not setting the world on fire speed-wise, but getting the routine at the lights down is important. Future plans are for a V-8, but until then it never sits still. I was just given these pics, so I figured I'd post them and thank all those that posted so much great tech info.
nice and i love those wheels by the way what track is that i will be running my mav at norwalk this summer.
That's really cool. I too like the wheels. Just out of curiosity what size 6 is it and what kind of times did it run?
It ran low 14's in the 1/8th. They weren't running the full 1/4 because the track was wet from rain that day. It was at Thompson Drag Raceway. Thanks guys.
Nice Mav.! Love the wheels, you should be proud of her.We go to the Gasser Nationals at Thompson every year,I ran my 41 Willys Gasser there in '07 Love that track!
I go every year, too. I probably saw you running that awesome Willys. I'm usually in my 57 Ford, but might race the Falcon this year. I really dig these Mavericks. They sure are fun to work on with kids that are just starting out.
Have you seen the white 60-62 Falcon that runs there ,or is it yours? That thing is so cool with the radiused rear wheel wells.
I don't know a white 60-62 with radiused rear wheelwells. There are a lot of Falcons around here, though.
Great story! My daughter raced my Maverick (also my first car from 1980) in a Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge before she got her license. Was running low 11's (1/8) when it was a "6" (went 10.98 right before I changed it to V8) Now she will race my Mustang in Pro (electronics) this year. Guess I'll just run the Maverick this year. At 21, she still enjoys going to the track over going out and getting in trouble!
