Yea, you need to plug the hole.

And is there a hole in the front area for a front sump dipstick?

The C5 might be a good swap. Doesn't that have a lock up torque converter?
Be a gas miser with that

If you're using the Vic timing cover, you'll need to drill a dipstick hole and install a dipstick tube and dipstick. Advance and Autozone sell new chrome dipstick/tube combos in the HP parts aisle. It goes in the lower passenger side corner of the timing cover, there's a flat boss there you drill it into. Make sure you use a bit that's slightly smaller than the new tube. A dial caliper is useful for this, you want the hole a thousandth or so smaller than the tube for a press fit.

Is that around the year they used the CVV? Or something like that? I can't remember what it's called but it is some kind of pre EFI carb that is a constant velocity ventura or something like that? Looks a bit like a 2v carb but is not? I wish I could remember what it's called. Having a lot of CRS lately. lol. If it is just pull it and put either a 2v or 4v in it's place.

Maybe a silly question, but I thought I'd double check. This is the tranny crossmember, correct?

Thought I would share some pictures. As well if anyone has a photo of a dipstick in the timing cover, I would be grateful, I would hate to drill the wrong spot.

Please share any thoughts/opinions on the pictures.

Yea, that's it. Go into my photobucket link below and go to page 3. I have a pic there of two timing covers. One has a knarly black arrow pointing to the boss where the dipstick hole needs to be drilled. You'll want to remove the oil pan first before drilling so as not to get the shavings into the pan.

You can loose all the vaccum lines except the one from the front port on the distributor back to the ported vaccum port on the carb. That'll be one that's above the throttle blades. I'd replace the EGR spacer under it as well. Use a PCV spacer from a 60's 2 bbl intake.

Do you realize that the transmission is an FMX?
It is going to cause more parasitic losses than the C4 and although the gear train is more than strong enough the cases have a tendancy to break the center support. They also weight a good bit more than the all aluminum C4.
I only know of a couple of builders that do a good job modifying them for performance - I am not one of them.

This is deffs not going to be a performance machine, it won't see any drag, just daily street duty. I'm not looking to modify the transmission performance wise, I'd quicker find a replacement tranny if it broke. Break the center support, as in a support on the car? Can this be reinforced beforehand? I know some wicked welders.

FMX = good stuff. Run it. Tough sumbitches. You will need to use the slip yoke from it too in your swap.

What application is that oil pan ? Strange looking sump. But it does have the rear wall kicker to clear a main girdle's studs. Good if you decide to build a stroker and use a girdle.

Ebay pan, it just said maverick 302 front sump. I'm not complaining if I can use a girdle, it would reinforce everything if I turbo or supercharge the car. Not to go too off topic, but a single turbo conversion would be cool, like the old 911's. Lots of work for no gain over twin turboing though, it would just look neat.
