Hmmm... Does it create the same amount of power as a FI'ed turbo setup? Would it be smarter to go with FI'ed?

It depends on the setup, but usually FI will make more power as its more efficient.

Alot of guys with extreme high HP turbo cars actually prefer carbs. There are several things you have to do to a carb to run blow through but not terribly difficult. I've been researching it because Im probably going to be running a blow through setup on my Pinto when I drop the 2.3 Turbo in it, unless I can run across a good deal on a MS2

That's why i said it depends on the setup ... im also going doing a turbo project. I tough about a carb cause well you can buy one thats already modified . But FI seams more tempting as you can modify it more on a street setup, i also want to try a lean burn mode on the freeway for maximum mpgs:thumbs2:

I don't know much if any about the Ford FI obd1 system, i haven't gotten around to it.

But if its anything like the Honda one where you can edit ROM chips for the ECU then it will be total blast :)

Right now im helping my brother in law with his D series Honda build ... still looking for a turbo probably a 14B or T25 or any small domestic turbo we can find.

I'll probally end up doing the tuning, using Crome to burn the chips and uberdata to datalog it(i don't think crome lets you but im not sure). I got uberdata last week and its really simple to use so far.

As for the mav nothing crazy just a 5.0L, factory ECU and FI setup with a medium sized single. . i saw a guy that makes the HOT side kits for the foxbody for really cheap something like $400.(it has a T4 flange so that gives me plenty of options) I might end up going with one of those and modify it to fit the mav. Hopefully next year...this year i'm keeping my eyes out on the for sales sections and ebay. Hopefully i can find a decent rebuildable one :)

EDIT: i just looked up the Megasquirt2 box...its not that expensive....might use that instead.

fords obd 1 system is very flexable. they have a port on the computer that you can plug a chip into. there are two diy chips out there that have lots of support. eec tuner and tweecer. the ford maf air system is really easy to work with and has lots of aftermarket support. the speed density system is a little harder to work on due to its not being used in as many of the popular vehicals to modify.
