steering

    Hey guys i have a 77 maverick was wondering if someone could tell me what the screw on top of the steering box does?

    The reason i was asking i just replaced ball joints upper and lower tie rods inner and outer then took it to elinement shop and it still acts like it wants to sway from side to side when i drive it any ideas how to fix the problem

    If you have power assist steering it is the nature of the beast. It is not like power integral steering. Could also be the power steering control valve need rebuilt/replaced. A bad axle hub or loose wheel bearing or bad shocks will also cause swaying. Very rarely the steering box itself needs adjusting.

    Thanks for the info! how hard would it be to replace power steering control valve it does look old and crusty would have did it when i was under there but wasnt sure what it was

    The hardest part is getting it off the pitman arm.
