I finally got my welder and patched up the remaining holes, then started to install the cell on the brackets I had made, and then stood back and thought to myself, "I still need to buy battery hold-down box, fuel sending unit, mount Nitrous bottle, and buy a bunch of -AN fittings and hoses before I can run the car again..." Also, I would have to build a firewall in the trunk. So I gave up. Took the bracket out, and put the stock tank back in. I will bolt down the nitrous bottle and just focus on a battery box, and be done with it, and back on the road as soon as the battery box comes in. Otherwise, I am afraid with this project and the wife trying to buy a new house, the maverick would end up disassembled for another year before I could get it all back together.
but you know keep everything to the side for now, the good thing is you have most of the things you need. as long as the car is drivable that's great. hopefully after the house you can get back into it.
You are the reason I gave up on it. You already have your nitrous installed and are racing with it, and I was nowhere near ready to install mine, and my car has been without a fuel tank for a couple months now. I figured if I wanted to have the car running this year, I better put the stock tank bacl in and just finish the trunk up (holes welded up, carpet, nitrous bottle, battery box). Besides, I think the cell was getting me too far away from keeping my car a "street car". So today, I bought some carpet and will carpet the trunk up now that all the holes are filled in. I just painted (POR-15) all the exposed metal and welded spots and this week sometime, or next weekend, I will carpet the trunk and order that battery box, and mount the nitrous bottle and tubes.
hey post a pic of the trunk after you carpet, would like to see what that looks like. I don't remember now why you were going to install the fuel cell anyway. But I decided that down the road if I need to make any changes I'll keep my stock tank and just have a sump welded on. how soon before you can go to the track?
I need battery box and radiator catch-can at minimum to be track legal. So, if I don't mess with the nitrous for now, or at least don't hook it up, I should be track legal in a few weeks. But I am not sure if my local track is open yet. It is still "winter-ish" around here. I guess I should hop my little fanny over to JEGS and buy a catch-can and battery tray, maybe even that nitrous blow-off tube. I may have it by next weekend to install it all.
i don't know how much the battery tray is but I know the blow off is like $30-ish. if you can get your hands on some 0.032 aluminum a rear firewall and package tray is pretty easy to put in, that way you won't need a battery tray or blow off. just a thought. I got my radiator overflow for $8 at kragen auto parts.
I just got off jegs and got an aluminum sealed battery box and two thru-metal terminals, aluminum catch can and mounting bracket, and blow-down tube. Hopefully it will all get here this week so I can install it all next weekend. Between now and then, I will install the carpet.
Thanks, Mojo. That is kinda what I got to thinking...if I cannot use it, I cannot enjoy it, so back off and get it to a place where it is able to be used and abused during our driving season...
Very good thinking .... re-doing our home, one end to the other, is the primary reason why my Comet hit a long period of down time. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel here ...
