I've been throwing around the idea of doing a efi conversion and have been doing some research, but I was woundering if a computer that came off a automatic car would work on a manual car? I was looking through www.fordfuelinjection.com but couldn't find an answer. Thank you.

I may be wrong but i don't think so. I had my car set up with an EFI 3 yrs ago with an auto trans and the computer did nothing for the trans. My trans was an AOD not the AODE. So i would say yes you can use it.

It would work. As in it would run. The fuel and ignition curve won't be exactly right. It probably won't run bad though. I used to drive a Fiero that I converted from an automatic to a manual but, I didn't have the manual computer. It only had 2 symptoms. A slight hesitation just off idle(no torque converter to wait on) and the MIL(malfunction indicator lamp) would light when warm and setting at a stop. It gave the code for the VSS(apparently GM autos send a signal up the VSS even when stopped) . Ford cars generally use the same spec on the electrical portion of the speed sensor for both transmissions. So, you probably wouldn't have that problem but, you might end up with a couple of livable quirks. While that is a cheaper way, I would look into a programmable after market solution like Mega Squirt. Plus with those units you don't have to worry about an EGR or EVAP system and, you can generally program in any sensor from any manufacturer. like the holley throttle from a 318 Dodge mounted to an edelbrock carb manifold drilled to accept Toyota injectors sitting on top of a 302 is all possible. Just a whole lot of time building stuff and tuning.
