    Hi All,

I've got my "auto on the column" steering column apart waiting on a new lower shaft and bushing from RCM for the front clip conversion. While apart, I decided to do a "shifter delete" and remove the lever boss and pointer. Soon it'll be time to reassemble and I'll be needing some help. Does anyone have a good blow up or assembly instructions?

    And a few questions:
    • There are 2 "T" bolts with nuts inside the upper column that (apparently) do nothing, what is their purpose?
    • What keeps the inner shaft from pulling out? There's a snap ring, but even with it installed, by grabbing the wheel you can still pull the shaft out until the rag joint hits the tube. The RCM conversion does away with the rag joint, so I'm not understanding why you couldn't grab the wheel and yank it out...

If the two bolts are the same ones I'm thinking about they should hold your turn signal assembly together to your column. The "T" part hooks into the sides of your shift collar. Rebuilt a '71 F100 column that had two bolts on the inside with nuts on the outside. I could be wrong:)
Do they look like this, it's a f100 3 spd column but probably similar

No, the turn signal asm. has 3 small screws holding it down. I remember when taking it apart, I removed the nuts (from the top) and the T-bolts fell out of the lower collar. Nothing got "loose" as I undid them and they appear to do nothing.

I take it you've solved this problem already... LOL

I found this by searching for how to's on steering column disassembly. I am installing an ididit conversion kit on mine and cannot seem to get the inner and outer tubes apart. I have a automatic collapsible column. I've got the inner shaft out and have cut off the flange at the bottom of the inner-tube but the inner-tube appears to be permanently attached to the auto shift collar. How do I get the auto shift collar off?

    Thanks

Yeah, I'm good to go. Can you DL a blowup diagram from Ididit? Or maybe give them a call?

I think there is a snap ring that you need to get off, and the collar will slide right off. You do need snap ring pliers to do it.

There was a snap ring on the steering shaft that had to come off before the shaft would come out. There is another one on the shift collar as well? I'll look for it. I called the the RRS North America tech line and they said they think there is a pin associated with the shift lever that may be holding the collar in place. I wish I could find a diagram somewhere. I play with it some this evening. Hopefully one of these suggestions will work.

I figured it out. There was a hidden screw on the inside of the shift collar holding it on to the inner-tube. Thanks for the help guys.
