So I am changing my transmission filter for the first time. After taking the pan off, I take off the oil screen and a spring and throttle pressure limit valve pop out.

Can someone confirm that the valve should be placed on top of the spring and not the bottom?

    Thanks

Place the valve in first than the spring. The filter holds the spring.

Mike is giving you the right proceedure and make sure that the valve goes in with the small "stem" is facing the spring.

A long time ago(16 years) I was in Valparaiso Indiana and my C4, all of a sudden, had a whole bunch of neutrals. I took out the tranny on the side of the road and opened it up. Having no earthly idea what I was looking at I decided to go to the local wrecking yard. I found a C4 removed all the clutches and went back to my car. I put the new(er) parts in and then proceeded to stick the spring and valve piece in backwards(since it shot out at me when I removed the filter I didn't know how it came out). I got to Aurora Illinois(about 90 miles) and had a whole bunch of neutral again. I learned the real hard way which end of the spring the valve goes on.
