I need to replace my front upper a arm bushing's. specifically the bushings right near the bottom of the shock. not the inner by the frame. may be called a strut rod bushing??? mine is about ate up and squeaking like crazy on the drivers side. my question is what size do i need. Energy suspension sells a kit on ebay for $13 to do both sides, inner near the frame and outer near the upper ball joint. they have them in 1-7/16" o/d and 1-9/16" o/d. which ones do need? and does 2/16" make that much of a difference.? any help would be appreciated. the squeaking is rather embarrassing  and probably not to safe being that it's worn out. oh yeah 1971 maverick, originally a 250-6 car. stock suspension. Here are the links to parts I'm looking at.

It's usually the upper control arm bushings that squeak. You can install grease fittings and lube them. The lower shock mounts near the spring saddle, is that what you're refering to? You can buy new stock ones for $20-$25 apiece or roller bearing units for about 6 times that. Strut rod bushings are what connects the left and right strut rods to the front crossmember. The rear end of each rod goes to the lower control arms. It's easier just to replace the entire lower arms as they come with new bushings and ball joints.

i already have grease fittings on the uppers near the frame and have greased them. The one thats is squeaking is near the upper ball joint under the edge of the coil spring.

If you're talking about the spring perch then it has nothing to do with the upper control arm.

Not the spring perch, there is a rod on the a arm near the bottom of the coil spring that has a bushing in it,which is the one that is squeaking. The one between the bottom of spring and upper ball joint.

Those are the spring perches. Group 3388 seen here: http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/diagrams/untitled008.gif

You can buy replacement bushings, or whole spring perches themselves. They also sell perches with roller bearing instead of bushings. Check out National Parts Depot (NPD) part number 3388-1A on page 71 of their online Mustang Catalog. You can find more options at Rock Auto, eBay and other Mustang Parts sources. Price around! :thumbs2:
