302 block

i just picked up a 302 from a 78 mercury station wagon for 25 bucks and was wandering if there is any difference between ford and mercury 302 castings.

 

Not that I've ever noticed.

Check the casting numbers. If it's a D8VE, it'll make a great 352 stroker foundation.

 

ya its a bare block though but i figured i couldnt pass it up, im going to check that casting number now

whats makes this block good?

 

It weighs as much as the Mex block. Only it has the std main caps that the rest had. It weighs 10 lbs more than the 87-2001 roller blocks. Thicker all over.

 

oh, ok thanks then it should be a good candidate for a stroker in the future if i get some money :]
