Well its been a while since i have been on the forums. Not much has changed on the ol maverick. For those that dont know i have a 75 maverick 4 door 250 C4 A/C car. Anyway what has been done. I fixed the turn signals. now have a eltrical flasher and led bubls woo hooo i know not very exciting lol. I have a couple questions and i would like your opinion. 1 were can i get new weatherstriping? whats the best source? Now the next question is biggy. I have the 250 I6 with a billion miles on it (well actually close to 300 thousand but good enough) Now heres were my dilema comes in. I was going to do the V8 conversion but i have stopped so far becuase the car runs pretty good for all the miles it has now it does leak from every gasket it has, i dont change oil just replenish it. The A/C works and pretty darn good at that. If i threw in a V8 the A/C would be gone and in Oklahoma summers thats not good. My power stering doesnt work either i was going to conver to to manual but now thinking about fixing it and freshing up the I6 (with maybe a 2V carb flange welded to the manny and a hotter cam) This is not a race car never will be just a daily driver for me. I would like more power sure but its not needed. What do you guys think keep the 250 or freshen it up?
Build the six, they are becoming more popular than ever before and you can get some good power out of them.
I agree w/ PaulS. I wud rebuild the 250. If u have 300K miles just the rebuild will give you better performance. l wud go w/ mild cam and header and go another 100K or so miles.
If can find one, why don't you try locating a low mileage 250 and rebuild that one as well as going for the other upgrades. Actually, if you want get a low mileage 200 since there are a lot more available aftermarket parts for the 200 compared to the 250. The 200 revs much better compared to the 250 as well.
well my 250 is worn but still a stock bore so a 30 over with a mild cam 2v carb and the split headrers should do nicely cool that confirms what i was thinking now about the weather stripping
I guess I fail to see what swapping to a V8 has to do with the A/C? Just get the pulleys and brackets from an A/C car, and have new lines to the compressor made up.
Mainly the orgnial A/C still works in my car and still has R12 in it. That and its mental thing. If i go V8 it will most likley be a 351W and then that of course wont be a factory engine it would a aluminum headed bored stroked bad boy, then i would need cage then i would get rid of the A/C for weight and on and on and on Then one hot june day in OK i will be sitting at the stop light losing weight at a rapid rate and cusing the fact i did away with my perfectly good A/C unit.
Ohhh and apparentley every were else in the U.S. Mavericks are plentiful for parts but not here. I keep hearing get this or that from a V8 car. My maverick is like the only one you ever see in my area. once in a while i will see another (mucher nicer) mav but mines usually it.
Welcome back! I agree - finding parts here is hard. I didn't realize that old yellow had near 300K miles, but I'm not surprised the A/C is still working. The old man kept the A/C up. I know a guy that has a shop in Claremore that did some of the work for him. For those that don't know, olskool's car is originally from Claremore. I say build the 250 and drive on. If you're interested in moving DOWN. I have a 170. You can get weatherstripping from Autokrafters.
Yes he did and he kept records. I can track the milleage on the car to right at 200K and then it changes hands and gets fuzzy for about 5 years and then to me. You can tell its all orginal under the hood never been messed with so im figuring 300 or right at. Its still ticking i drive it daily.
