Hello all, I just bought a 73 Grabber in Pennsylvania and I need to transport it to the Vancouver, Washington area. Does anyone have suggestions as to having this done? Someone told me about http://www.dasautoshippers.com/ so I called for a quote, which was around $1,150.00. Since the quote I haven't been reading very good things about them online from previous customers. Big Al
Look in the yellow pages there are other shippers one might give a better rate but not alot better I would say the best might be between 7-800
Wow ... the West coast has so many rust-free cars it amazing that you ended up buying one from the East coast ...
It was a nice, and unexpected, find that I just couldn't pass up. Found it while I was searching for some parts for my standard Mav.
There are a lot of shippers out there and you can find them by doing a simple Internet search. I highly recommend going to the Better Business Bureau website http://www.bbb.com/ and check out any business you aren't sure about. I contracted with a shipper about a year ago and was having bad luck getting them to bring my car. I went to the BBB and found out that they had a ton of complaints for that very reason. I was finally able to get my money back and went with someone else which wasn't a whole lot better. I found out that most of these shippers are someone sitting in their house lining up a truck to ship your car for you. If you can contact the actual trucking company direct you can save a lot of money and more likely get a straight answer. The trucker that brought my car from Ohio to Mississippi told me he would have brought it for $450 which was what he was paid by the shipper (I paid them $750). So try to cut out the middle man if possible. Good luck and post some pics when you get your car.
What would it take to get the car drivable? I would think that it would be way more cost effective and a hell of a lot a fun to fly out and bring it home. Even with say tires, oil change, radiator flush and pressure test, basic tune up, plane ticket, couple nights motel, gas - I would think you would be way under $1000.
hmm...remeber that movie with Richard Pryor...Moving I think was the name of it...the guy with mental issues who delivered his Saab across country. It was trashed when it arrived. Funny. I have no clue. I have a friend here in NC who operates a delivery service, but I bet he charges more than that. Dumb question. From NY to FL there is the Amtrak Autotrain. They ship cars to FL for old people who don't like to drive. Do they operate an East/West line? Just a thought. Seth
HAHA! i remember that movie........believe it or not that was Dana Carvey that played that psycho guy. LOL
If it has any kind of tires rent a dolly from U-haul for about $50 dollars a day. Get it when you get there and get rid of it when you are home.
Or you could buy one closer to home. I know of a '73 grabber in Newport WA. baby blue, blue interior, 302, auto. rest of story familiar, ran when parked years ago tranny slipping asking price $500. Guy won't budge on price its been sitting so long he knows it ain't gonna cost him to let it sit longer. Is in barn but has a little rust in rear Quarters. Definite potential.
That's good to know about - may need some parts. I've already bought the Grabber in Philly. Also kinda weird, I've lived in both Newport and Spokane. You're creepin' me out.
