You sir are correct, I suffer from sometimers. Yeah he wont get much of a reading unless he has a bent valve or three. Must correct my post now...
That is a positive stop rocker arm set up. The stud has a ledge on it which stops the rocker ball from traveling down the rocker stud. You turn the rocker nuts down till they stop then torque to 25 to 30 ft lbs and the adjustment of the valvetrain is done.
ok so i just torque them and leave them thats it??.... and when i get new pushrods i need to do a compression test and turn the engine all the way over to make sure nothing sticks right? how to i test to make sure the cam is right since i replaced the timing chain???
Thats the same type of rockers i have. I thought you turn the nut 3/4 of a turn after the push rod stops spinning? Am I setting them wrong?
i set my timing chain that way when i took out the old timing chain ( it was at tdc ) the dots were not lined up the cam was at the very top so i turned it so it lined up with the crank ( thats what i was told to do ) and they were inline so i put it all back together. yea robbie i heard ticking from my engine too so i would guess thats what you need to do is torque them down
What you need to do, before you waste any more money, is figure out why they bent..something isn't right.
well i need new ones anyways i mean i dont have the money right this moment. but dont i need to use the pushrods to turn the engine over to see if i have valves bent and if my timing chain is right??
You'll need the push rods, to see if the piston, is hitting the valves... What type of timing chain did you get? Is it indexed? or does it only have one keyway for the cam...aftermarket performance ones, usually have minimum 3 different positions you can set the cam.
well when i get the pushrods how do i see if the valves hit the pistons? and this is the timing chain that i was told to get ( the same guy who told me how to bolt down the rockers) and he said to line it up with the two circles on either gear and it would be lined up. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-2120/
bent pushrods Sam- if you multiple bent pushrods , then as noted before , you probably have the cam gear installed wrong. Pull the cam cover, find TDC for #1 and find out where you have the gear set installed. I'm guessing its installed wrong. Get it right first, then install new pushrods and stare checking for any bent valves. buy a motors manual for your car. It will have all the info you need to correct your setup and check for damage.
