I'm interested in purchasing this 1971 maverick i found...it has grabber emblems on the side but the hood is not a grabber style and it doesnt have the rear spoiler...it halso has a bench seat. but does have a V8.. in 1971 did the grabbers come with the special hood and rear spoiler? or is this just a maverick with grabber graphics? either way it is in really nice shape and will probably get it anyway....its not a deal breaker if its a grabber or not, just curious if the 1971's came with the special hood/spoiler etc... thanks any info appreciated.
You can look at the VIN to determine if it's a grabber or not. Grabbers have a 93 and regular mavericks have a 91 if I remember correctly. It should also have the Grabber hood and spoiler if it was a grabber but things happen over the years so one never knows there.
What he says is true, but ill add on to that. 71-72 models had grabber hoods from the factory. 70-73 grabbers had the spoiler. So yes it should have both. The bench seat and v8 doesnt determine whether it was a grabber or not. Grabber's could have 6 cylinders and bench seats and it was very common actually. As for checking the vin its the 3rd and 4th digit should say 93 if its a grabber if its a stanard it will read 91.
dont early model grabbers didnt have the grabber hood??? i was looking at the year to year pictures of the grabbers and one didnt have it but the next year did
Just remember that the Grabber package, was just an appearance package. Most Grabbers were 6 cyl cars. The V-8 was an option in all models...
Looks like a clean car. More pics needed though. I wouldnt worry about being a Grabber or not. IF its a good clean car for decent money its a good grab with the V8 in it. Just check the VIN like mentioned to see if it was a Grabber and V8orI6 car. Looking at the car I would guess its just got a stripe added.
its real clean... nice wheels, interior has been redone, disk brakes all around, dual exhaust, a hiPo 302 V8 etc...
Looks like a decent car, but as with any Maverick, do some detailed checking before you hand over any cash. Run a hose in the cowl, and see where the water goes, have a look at the torque boxes, floors, and frame rails right at the back.
