I first spotted this car back in 2006, it was right next to a liquor store that i go to everyday. (and no not to buy liquor ). Anywho i did some investigating work to find out who owned it. Turned out that the transmission shop across the street owned the lot and the cars. So one day i go over and asked them if they were interested in selling it, the owner said no because he was planning on restoring it. And then i told him how passionate i was about these cars and that i would offer to help him out in any way to restore it. I also told him about the forum. Fast forward to 2007, the car was still in the same spot wasn't even touched or nothing. I remember one day the lot was open so i went in to get a closer look at it. The body was flawless, whoever had done the body work did a great job on it. The car was stripped though, but still had most of the parts inside. So again i go and ask the owner about it he said that he was still going to restore it. Late 2007 i got a great paying job. (well for an 18 year old at the time) so one day i was like what the hell let me go make him an offer. So i get there and tell him since he never works on it if he would consider selling it to me. He said he might, so my next pay check i get $300 from it plus i get another $300 from my saving and i go offer him $600 cash. He denied it. Then in early 2008 i go again and this time i offer him $800 again in cash, and he didn't budge. For the rest of 2008 the car sat in the same spot, never touched once. Around june 2009 my dads friend come over and he sees the car as well, and makes the guy an offer of $1,200. But the guy again rejects the offer. The car sat in the same spot for the rest of 2009, everyday for 4 years i passed by this car wishing it was mine. So about two months ago i hear from my dad a story. The transmission shop for the last year had been running a chop shop, and they police finally caught up to them and raided them. So i was hoping that the comet might be put up for an auction. Well starting two weeks ago i noticed a lot of homeless people started living at the car lot also one by one the cars kept on disappearing. Finally i go by yesterday and see two cops there, i also notice that the comet was gone. Well long story short the homeless guys had been selling off the cars illegally. The comet was also the last car they sold off to a scrap yard. So when i heard this i immediately called every scrap yard in town and nobody has an orange classic car I have no clue what happened to that comet now, i hope somebody saved it......
Reminds me of the hunt a friend of mine has been on. He found a 68 Chevelle sitting behind a shop and the guy said he would sell it but wouldn't give him a price and kept jacking around. He rejected several offers...but a few weeks ago the car ended up completely under water during our big flood. Guess he should have taken the offer.
When I had a Cougar there was a guy in the area with one. He'd swing by sometimes and talk about how many he'd crushed thinking he could make them more valuable. Talk about seeing red.
i haven't tried that, the police officers told me that it was sold to a scrap yard not a junkyard. But i'm going to give them a call in the morning, i haven't seen a maverick or a comet in a junkyard since last October .
Wa-a-ah!.... we were all hoping for a happy ending... It sounds like you made a helluva effort to save that car... over more years than I would have pursued it... and offered good money to a bunch of crooks who mutilate stolen cars. Wasnt meant to be... I lost sleep over attaining both my Comets until they were parked safely in my yard... I know the feeling. Don't recall the end of your message... Did you try going to the police station (not phoning - dropping in and talking to someone) to see who will be responsible for liquidating the assets of said chop chop?... might lead to a holding facility that has the car. After a few years of trying... I'd keep you eyes and ears open to see if anything resurfaces... make a few more calls... ...just don't get your hopes too high.
