I'm about to button up the 302. Then I caught a read about windage trays. My question: do I need it? I'm running a .520 cam and aluminum heads. Another 100 bucks does not sound fun, but if it's worth it, I'll get it.

You'll get different opinions on this. I've run with them and without. To me, it depends how you're gonna use your car. High rpm or racing situations, they can help. Puttering around on the street the way I do anymore, you won't notice a difference. BTW, one of the best trays for our engines is the Ford Racing part that originated on the Boss 302. I've seen them used for $40 and new for around $65. Or just get a deep 7 qt. oil pan and only put 5 qts. in it.

Thank you. I'll be putting around and an occasional run on the freeway. An extra 12 hp at 6500 rpm isn't a neccessary deal for me.

    Stall Speeds

How is a stall speed managed using the C4? Is this a converter choice, or is it the small module located on the outside of the trans?

    Thanks!

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Converter choice, the small module controls the shift point.

hummmm... it was suggested that I go with a 1500rpm stall... any suggestions on where to get one with a C-4, or is it pretty standard to find?
    THANKS!!!

it sounds like the build of your motor is not going to like a 1500 stall speed. thats pretty much a stock stall speed. that cam probly wont have enough torque on the low end to push that conveter. you probly want something like a 2200-2500 rpm

Yes the more I read the more I realize I'll be shopping again... I'm using a Comp Cam XE266HR, Edelbrock RPM intake and a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads...

"XE266HR cam and the Performer RPM Air Gap efficient operating ranges of the cam and intake match perfectly, producing an exceptional power curve that exceeded 320 lb-ft from 3,000 rpm all the way to 6,000 rpm. Starting at 3,100 rpm, the torque curve reached 340 lb-ft and motored up to the peak of 377 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm".

Any leads to a good resale converter shop?

You can try Jegs or Summit Racing. I buy mine locally. You'll get a lot of different opinions but I use Hughes convertors. They are from Phoenix and if I need any service I take it right there. When I tore the last one up the tranny shop I used said they would get a better price than if I took it there personally, so I let them do it.:)
