For those that don't know, I just bought back the Maverick that was in my Family since the summer of 1969. :bananaman

The car had a heart transplant and now sports a 93 mustang engine.
    Details: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=66342

The oil pan is leaking and missing a bolt - hope its not broken. The pan has a crack. (Canton 7 quart pan)

I am thinking of switching to a chrome style OEM 5 quart pan but I am not sure if this will starve the engine.

Also, when I went to look for a 1993 oil pan, then asked for style of car and "VIN" to determine the right pan and gasket. Wouldn't a 1993 302 engine use the same pan and gaskets? Anyone know a good pan to use that might come with bolts?

I imagine the gasket can be reused - most of the gaskets he used can be. If not, the local auto shop should have oil pan gaskets.

Any ideas? (The last enigne I worked on was this Maverick's straight 6 - which I have in a crate.) :yup:

the newer mustangs are a rear sump oil pan and the mavs and older ford's are front sump

just buy a front sump oil pan for it lets say a stock one for a v8 mav

a maverick uses a front sump pan unless it has a mustang 2 suspension. the 93 mustang pan has a big sump in the rear with a small buldge in the front.
any autoparts store will have oil pan gaskets. there is a one pice rubber one that is avaiable. that is the gasket to get. you may be able to have your current pan welded to fix the crack.

    Sweet! You all rock!

I ws thinking its just an oil pan and gasket - and then a few searches later my head was spinning. :rofl2:

Being on the bottom - getting a black oil pan. Save the chrome for the top.

    Thanks guys! :tiphat:

Just a word of caution on chrome stuff, it has a tendency to leak due to the chrome sealing surface so make sure you buy quality stuff or polished aluminum

Good advice - I like polished aluminum and might save me some head aches. Thanks! :thumbs2:

I just bought the earlier, (front heavy) version pan for a 93 mustang motor. It's not listed as a replacement part for the 93 mustang, but it looks like it will work. Make sure to get the pump to go with the old style oil pan. I got a bare metal one, and primed and painted satin black.

The engine came with a Melling High Volume oil pump. I am hoping the a stock pan will not be an issue. Too bad they don't make an affordable 6qt pan.

Same oil pump for all, you need to stop telling the parts guy you have a 93 engine. The blocks are all the same as far as where everything bolts onto. Felpro makes 2 one piece oil pan gaskets, one for the rear sump pans one for the front sump pans. You want the front sump gasket to match the pan you'll be using.

Not sure I get this yet - when I worked on the Maverick it was a stock I6 and parts were easy. Since then, the new engine was put in and I am trying to get up to speed.

I checked with "Shinysideup" and he said I should use the older style pan as well. Looks like I need to start a parts list for the car to make sure I can remember all this. :)

Alright - I had a brain fart - I get what you guys are saying. Been a few years since I worked on an engine.

Since the car is about 5 states away - I got a guy I know pulling the pan and another guy I know who is a great fab guy welding the pan back together.

We took the oil pan off and its torn in one spot and cracked at a weld as well. The pan sits low and the car has the Shelby drop - I am thinking it might be better to get a different 7 qt pan at this point. (Don't want this happening again)

    I found these options:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD...Q5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_5141wt_1087 - 9" depth

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MIL-30925/ - 8 3/4" depth

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-20502/ - 8" depth but pan may need to be modified to fit in a Maverick

Not sure the ones from summit racing is worth $100+ more.

Anyone know of a more shallow oil pain that holds 6 or 7qt, works with a high volume oil pump, is front sump and fits in a Maverick? Should I add a wind gate while the pan is off?

    Any recommendations? :hmmm:
