I just recently bought a brand new, never used, out of the box Accel super coil http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACC-140001/ . According to summit, I need a 0.85 ohm ballast resistor to use this coil with my points. True or false? What will happen if I don't use the extra resistor? Will it still work right or will it burn my points up quickly? I'm planning on going with a Pertronix sometime in the future, but for now I will keep the points...

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I've heard that points don't use full 12Volts that's the reason for the resistor.

I have that coil on the falcon with no resistor but its running duraspark, great coil no problems with it in 60k miles. :)

You are good to go. Ford already has the resistor wire from the factory.

Cool! Now all I've got to do is find some nuts for the terminals and build a mounting bracket. But for $10, I can't complain!
