I plan to use my original block (thirty over) I have a set of 65 289 heads 54.5cc chambers w/365 horse 327 chevy valves. I want to run pump gas. The rather disinterested tech guy at comp cams told me that flat tops would yeild 11:1 compression and that 14mm dished would be a better option. Is this true? any other suggestions? I'd rather hear from Ford guys. I will have many more questions regarding this build. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Not 11 to 1, but rather 10.5 to 1. Which if you choose the cam wisely, you can still run it on 89 octane gas. I did it with a 10.25 to 1 390 by using a Crane 272* Energizer cam. But actually, you need to cc your heads, with the 327 valves installed and unshrouded, the chamber volume is no longer 54 ccs. So in effect the ratio is going to be less than 10.5 to 1.

Thanks for the advice. I don't know how to do that. Can A machine shop do this?

You can do it with a piece of thick plexiglass, some vaseline and graduated syringe. Or pay a machine shop to do it.

Whoa....wait. You're in Winder, Georgia. You do know Kaase Racing Engines is there, don't you?

And if they don't want to fart with it you can call MV Performance in Statham. Tell Tim, Lisa, or Bart that SD sent you.

In answer to your question....so many variables come into play here but typically a flat top with 289 heads will yield roughly 10.5:1 compression.
