When I bought my Maverick in March I had no idea how ravenous the fans of these cars were. I bought it because I thought it was cool but I thought it would draw no interest what so ever. Boy was I wrong. Who knew there were so many die hard Maverick freaks? I'm lovin it.
its great when guys that work the shows, are bored watching all the other cars make their way to park. then come over to talk to you with that excited look because your in a nice mav....
Oh they get more attention than people realize. I love pulling into a crusie night or the local Wendys(ricer hangout) and watch all the heads turn.
It is great, I took mine to her first Cruise Night at A&W last week, about 40 or so cars showed up (including a 1930 Model A) I was parked there between a Dart Swinger and a nice old Camaro, yet people kept coming up and asking about mine. It just validates one of the reasons I wanted a Maverick....people like to see something different.
Bought my first mav, a 74 back when my ex-wife decided she needed my caddy and pick-up more than me. price was right and it had ac, and i need it. then i feel in love with the car was getting 25 mpg w/a i6. new stereo to fill the void on radio delete, a tune up, and been hooked ever since.
Thanks! It started out as an aftermarket unit supplied by MAS Racing (no longer in business). I had to make some modifications to it to make it fit better. Some of the guys claim one from a 69 Shelby fit well. Might be easier than finding one of the MAS ones now.
"Die Hard Maverick Freaks" - - - - I kinda like that. Growing up in the 70's I can assure you that I have been called a freak before
These cars get a lot of attention. Your going to start hearing two things over and over when people see your car. Its either " I havent seen one of those in years" or its "I used to have one in high school".
Having a car that is "different" is fun. I have nothing against Camaro's Chevell's and Mustangs BUT they are everywhere. Add to that the fact that no matter how nice yours is you will see one nicer. I dont begrudge the guy that has one nicer but it is fun to stand at the top. Owning a car that is uncommon allows you to stand at the top once and a while. My last car was a 70 Torino. It retained all of its original sheet metal and was extremely nice. It needed a few very minor things to make it to the top class of cars that can still be classified as a driver. When I took that car to a car show it was usually the nicest Torino there. Most of the time it was the only Torino there. The funny thing is, is that most people never gave it a second look. They would walk right past it to look at a run of the mill "CheMaroStang". The Torino was just not a car that drew attention. I never cared because I bought the car for me and not for the masses. My new Maverick is a different story. Although its uncommon it draws a lot of attention. It seems that everyone either had on or knows someone that had one. There have been a few time that I have taken it to the store and had a hard time getting in and out of the car because people just come up and want to talk about the car. Maybe its the bright lime paint?
so true, now i dont what its like to pull up in a "nice maverick" being as how mine isnt nice just yet. However my other baby is and its a 1962 corvair convertiable. There is hardly ever another corvair when i go to shows with it unless im rolling with the corviar club. That car draws attention away from Corvettes, Camaros, Tri 5 chevys mustangs, and chevells. It gets awards all the time. Not cause its the nicer than the other cars but becuase its diffrent. The phrase "i remebemer when i had one" or "My friend had one high school" always comes up. I love the unique cars cause they all have a story to tell and every time you pull up to a show or gas station they will tell it to you.
