Hey I found these Pro Comp aluminum heads for sale and was wondering if anyone is using them... if so, good or bad results.??? 190cc Intake Port, 60cc Chamber they look nice and TMD carries them but I found them cheaper on fleabay.. thanks for any info
I've read nothing but BAD things about them on ford engines. Take a minute and do some reading on SBF.com (ran by woody at fordstrockers.com IIRC so keep that in mind) or the corral in the 5.0 5.8 section. I've never personally used them on fords and have friends that run them on chebbies with good results. Personally i wouldn't risk it after reading some peoples problems with them.
I would be all over that like Flies on #$%^ ! I would defenetly say there worth 500. The parts and machine work prob equal that price tag. Find yourself a good cam, grind out the EGR bumps, and enjoy a nice boost in power. Now I will say this, you do realize that your really close to aluminum head prices at that cost.................... Where buying these heads your pretty much maxed out as far as iron heads are concerned not much you can really do to them besides port work. So if your thinking of EVER putting aluminum heads on your car just do it know and skip these heads.
Close to aluminum heads prices? I cant find any aluminum head sets that are close to $500 complete. Pro comps are the only ones that are close to that kind of dough and they are kind of cheesy, ... I'm not looking for race heads either though, I'm basically looking to replace the stock heads that I have with something decent that isnt going to cost alot of money. it"s just a summer cruiser/weekend car that spends most of the time in the garage. maybe I can talk him down a bit if they are still available.
I was meaning off of used aluminum cylinder head prices, sorry should have been more clear. Sounds to me like them heads fit your plan and car very well, I'm sure you will REALLY like the upgrade over stocks. Should bring a nice smile to your face when you mash the go fast peddle and thats all that matters!
I've got a good number of friends use'n the procomp's,they all run between 12.0-9.8,everything from a stock bottom end 302 to a bottle feed 347,so really its if you want to trust them,i plan on use'n them for my next DD prodject but for my weekend car im go'n AFR
the gt 40 heads go for 400 without being rebuilt you can get a set of stock mustang e7 heads for cheap and port them out and they will flow just as good as the stock gt40 heads - and the e7 heads are a lil bit lighter i would buy the gt40 heads and port them out
I am using the cnc ProComp 205's on my 347 in my orange mav, I have only heard it run so far (and it sounds great) because the car is still in the reassemble stage. the engine was dynoed at 512 hp with 5 pulls. I have talked to a few guys around me that run the same heads that I have and they really like them.
hmmm... now a few people say they are great and a few say no good.. do I spend $450 on a rebuilt set of gt40's or spend $580 on a new set of the pro comp's aluminum? decisions, decisions
They are made in china, which doesnt need explaining. I suggest if you buy them, buy them bare. I would bet 90% of the problems are from people who buy the assembled heads. The assembled heads they sell are not worth two dead flys. They use all chinese made valves, retainers, keepers and springs. The people who assemble these heads are paid by how many they build, not how well the machine work is done.
Good point! I think I am going for the GT40's, they are known to work and work well, The heads I'm looking into have been rebuilt with decent parts and ready to bolt on... I just need some studs for them ... thanks for all the replies
Are you sure about that? I know the majority of ProComp stuff is Chinese, but I thought their heads were made in Australia...
He was stating that the heads should be purchased bare because the pre-assembled heads have Chinese PARTS in them... the chinese parts are the issue with the heads not the heads themselves. As far as I have been told by the sellers of these heads is that yes, they are made in Australia.
