i know my car is all original theirs only been one other onwer than me and that was my uncles mother when she had the car it never went over 35mph and its only been out of the state of virginia 1 time to i dont think its been hit or some how messed up. but i was decoding the vin and instead of it having a W which means c4 automatic it has a 1 for 3-speed manual so if anyone might know tell me please the vin for a 1974 4W91L198221
4, is 1974 "W" is for Wayne, it's the assembly plant. 91, is Maverick L, is the engine 198221, is the 98221 Maverick serialized. Get the numbers, off the sticker on the B pillar, that'll tell you the transmission.
ya thats what i found and thats where it gets me messed up on what my vin says with the L1 instead of a LW cuz its a automatic
It's not "L1" it's just "L", they didn't list the transmission in the vin. All Fords had vin's that started with "1" as in 198221....
L is 250 6 cylinder. The 1 is part of the serial number. It has nothing to do with the transmission. The transmission code is not in the VIN, it's on the door tag. edit: Dave beat me to it.
Look for this tag in the drivers door jamb. The info at the bottom of the tag will tell you trans/ rear end gears, etc...
Its the only way to tell if its a real sprint without having to order a marti report. It was only on 72 models. Cant remember the exact number made, but some of us want a real sprint
