i have never done it. i was wondering if it is as simple as removing the drive shaft, removing the u bolts and break lines and cables. is there more to it than this? i want to put in a 8.8 from an explorer. or is a fox body mustang diff. a better option?

i know this is a basic question, but i am learning this stuff as i go.
    thank you for your time.

for the 8.8 you have to weld on new perches.

I've never done it but i hear you need a jig to put the perches on correctly.

The explorer ones dont bolt in. And when you weld in new perches you need to have the correct pinion angle. The mustang ones are set up for a 4 link setup so you have to do the same. Do a search theres a bunch of threads on this subject.

you dont need a jig to weld on the pearches. you can put it on the leaf springs set the pinion angle then weld the pearches. the welding will warp the tubes and you should get the streightened or your trac lock will wear out because the axles wont be going into the side gears correctly.

this is using the car as a...jig...:yup:

the rearend (not center section) needs to be centered in the springs.
the brake line fittings are metric.
    the e-brake will need mods.
will the length work for you, if not it will have to be cut or diff. offset rims?

Ford didn't make a Posi...GM did. Ford made Equa-lock and Traction-loc, both came in either 8" or 9"
