:confused: Just put a new head on my 200 6 cyl, now the motor is over heating .I've put a new radiator cap on it but that wasn't it ,also checked the water pump and that wasn't it .the car ran fine before I put on the head. The reason I changed it was because the manifold mounting tab for the front bolt of the exhaust manifold was broke off and the manifold had a severe leak. I'm not sure what to do next.Any Sugestions :confused:
I know of a guy that put the head gasket on the wrong way when he changed his heads is there any way you could have done that ? You may have put the Tstat in the wrong way too ?
am going out to take it back apart before I do I want to see if the timing or valve adjustmentcould have anything to do with it also just put a new car on it also
Unless you have the early rockers off a 144 or 170 you can`t ajust the valves you only torque the rocker shaft bolts to 30 - 35 ft lbs from the midle outward
I have the rocker shaft bolts and thats what I done I pulled out the old chiltons manuel and torqued the bolts to spec.will tear it back down next week to check the head gasket.
Check for water in your oil. Also a compression test should tell you about you head gasket before you tear it apart ..
Probably somewhere between 100 and 150 PSI . Check all cylinders and make sure they are within 25% of the one with the highest pressure.
was the head used or rebuilt? make sure the rad. has enough water. sometimes it will air lock. when i build a motor i leave the t-stat out untill i get everything right (or close). this way if you have to go back in you don't loose the coolant....frank...:bananaman :bananaman
the head was used and I check the thermostat it's ok . I filled it back up with water and flushed the radiator and the temp is about 190 maybe we cured the problem. Thanks all.
