Has anyone tried using a newer style pump? Like the ones with the plastic tanks..and do they fit the factory bracket?
I thought I had read about it, but I can't seem to find the info, yes I tried using the search....

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I've seen a bunch of guys do it, but the main reason is because they want to run a serpentine setup.

I questioned about the line pressure, but no one seems to be having problems with them.

And i have never seen anyone try to fit it on a stock maverick bracket, but i bet it could be modified to work.

i did it with no problems. this is an easy upgrade but you will need all the mounting brackets that come with the newer pump as well as the fittings on the new pump. i bought everything off a 198? handy bus at a junk yard for $15.
it required a custom pressure line (different sized fittings) but it was made for me at a farm implement repair shop for about $30.00

the newer pumps have a bad habbit of becoming noisy. you ever hear that ford pull up and make that whining sound when it turns into a paring spot. its from that new style pump having dirt or air in the fluid. i also think that they are just ugly.

I'm using a newer style pump. What ptpdub said about the bracket is true. No funny noises from it yet...

What drive setup on the new pump V or serp? I just had my orig old pump rebuilt - it was leakin arnd the resivior. My pump seems to have an inherient whine. It is less noticeable since it was repaired, but I was informed by the party who repaired they do have a whining noise. I have got use to the noise. I had a new 73 Ford LTD and can't recall it having whining noise. I suppose being a full size car it had much better insulation and sound deadner which wud have made a difference. Also, it might have had a different pump.
I was thinkin abt the new pump but being new in the game I felt it prudent to stick w/ something that wud bolt right back on.

What was involved in putting in the new style pump and doe's it make the noises the older one's make?

V-belt. I can't really say whether it's louder than stock or not, since I've never run a stock one on it. But I haven't noticed it sounding any different than any other power steering pump. It makes noise when the fluid's low, but otherwise I don't hear it.
