Hey, I've started on the resto of my grabber now, it has the first registered date as being 31-12-1971 on the document, obviously it was imported here, the number plate is a J (UK) which means 1970. I'm sure I was told it was a '72 when I bought it though How can I find out exactly what year it was manufactured?! Also I need to have the front seats recovered, the rear one is in good condition (single black bench with textured centre), I was wondering though as it has a column shift and nothing in the centre- would it have been a bench seat on the front or just 2 normal seats? Cheers, TC
Do you have the VIN? What about the sticker on the B pillar, is it still there? Give us that, and we can tell you.
Check the gas tank. If it is a drop in style like the mustang, its a 70. If there is a trunk floor and the tank bolts underneath it, its a 71.
It could have come either way. My Green '72 Comet GT has factory bucket seats with a column shifter while the Maverick Grabber I had many years ago had a bench seat with the column shifter. I hope this helps, -Scott H.
Ah- found the sticker- says 01-71. So I guess that makes it a '71 then! As it has a column shifter a front bench seat would be very cool over here but then I dont get a single bit of side support when I get pedal happy!
The first number of the vin# in cars over here is the model year. If the first number is 1 it is a 71, 2 is a 72.
Yep- it starts with 1K, thanks for all the info, anyone mind supporting bench seats before I rule one out for the front?! You dont see any over here (probably for a reason), and as there is a bare transmission tunnel it could easily go in- but just not sure about rolling around going round corners etc- or is it not an issue? Also can you fit belts?
