We recently installed a 302 in my Ford maverick. We also replaced the 3 speed manual with a used c4 trasnsmission. We have a big transmission fluid leak. It appears to be coming out from around the pan. We changed the filter and the pan gasket, but it is still pouring out from around the gasket.
    What have we missed?

Take a look at the dip stick, where it enters the case. If the O-ring is bad, it will flow down around the pan area.

Still, check the O-ring. Could have gotton nicked when it was installed. Ask me how I know about this.

    Ok, what happened???

When I installed our new tube and dipstick, I had to use all of my 300 lbs of body weight to push the tube onto the transmission. I felt a click, so I figure it is all the way on there and is tight.

The O-ring on my old C-4 got nicked when I putt in the hole. I got a new O-ring, and it fixed the problem. Take the car to a carwash and clean the area around the tube and pan. Let the car run, and get in there and take a look. If it even looks like the tube is leaking, replace the O-ring. If that doesn't fix it, look at the lines at the top of the trans to see if they are dripping. Good luck!
