I was going up hill and almost stalled out so I slammed on the gas pedal, car jolted like crazy and everything was fine. Except after that I couldn't see the fuel gauge needle. Turns out it's all the way past full so you can't even see it. When I turn the car off it will come down and when I turn the car back on it goes right back past full to the point of not seeing it.

the wire to the sending unit may have fallen off. i think when it goes all the way over thats a sign that the wire is open. i may be wrong. if so then the wire is probly shorted to ground some where but i think its a open problem.

I'll get under the car and I'll take a look. the 2 wires are still in place but I wonder if they broke inside the insulation somewhere in the trunk.

Your sending wire got pinched someplace and it grounded itself out. Since it is a 2 wire type, there probably is a short between the 2 wires.
