If i put 8.8 inch rear disc brakes on my car what is the minimum wheel diameter I would need, Could I get away with like some 15 inch wheels? I am going to be using a 9 inch housing from a 59 fairlane with 87 lincoln mark vii 8.8 disc brakes on it, so i should be able to run like an 8 inch wheel in the back since the housing is a little wider right?

the lincon had 15" wheels on it stock so you should be able to run them. the 8 inch wheels will fit as long as you get the back spaceing right.

the housing i just figured up is 3/8 of an inch wider on each side than the stock maverick 8 inch. So what are most people running for backspacing with disc brakes?

I was just wondering the same thing. Picked up a rear disc setup for $50 this weekend. Going back later this week and might see what I can find for wheels.

the best way is to install the diff and put test wheel on. then take measurements to see wich directions you need to adjust. but if you dont have that much time you can try math.
i put a little bit wider diff in my car(65 mustang). dont rember exactly how much. i have weld drag lites 15x8 wheels with a 4.5 back spaceing they would rub 275/60-15s on the inboard side of the wheel well on the mav diff. with the mustang diff they would rub the outside of the wheel well. i hope this helps.

so do you think i would be fine with 15X8's with 4.5 backspacing with like some 255 60 15's, I have the rear raised up a little bit.
